Approach confidently and pray boldly

When you pray, who do you imagine you pray to? Is it a wide void in the ether? Or is it a good friend, father, and king?

Consider the God we serve.
In all his majesty and strength and imagination, he allows us to be in communion with him. We get to sit and talk with him, fall in love with him, and serve him. If the physical God was sitting in front of me, I wouldn’t stop talking but to hear his wise guidance. And he wouldn’t zone out or turn off his listening ears. He would eagerly be tuned into what I had to say.

The God who created the universe is hearing your prayers.
The one who formed the waters established the mountains and raised up the tallest redwood. You have His ear. He hears and he responds. He awaits earnestly for us to pray big prayers. And we shouldn’t be afraid to approach the throne and ask the big prayers.

Sometimes when we pray, we are scared to ask God what is actually on our hearts and minds. We’re scared that we’re going to pray something that is going to anger him or something that is out of our scope of influence, or we realize that the situation we’re desperately trying to fix is outside of our control.

When we pray big scary prayers, we acknowledge our own weaknesses and shortcomings. We submit our will to His.

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." (1 John 5:14)

When we align our will to his, we can ask God anything and he will hear us.
We can have confidence in approaching his throne and submitting our questions and concerns and desires to him. He wants us to ask him. He wants to be engaged with us. And the benefit of going to God with all of these things is when his will is exercised, we get to see the actual, tangible proof of God’s power.

Your prayers aren’t too bold. They aren’t stupid. They aren’t delusional. Align your will with God’s, becoming holy and sanctified, and you’re able to be heard and responded to by the King of Kings.

We are co-laborers with the Lord who created the entire universe.
We get to have an active role in what he is doing. Don’t worry about the follow-up if you haven’t even uttered the ask. Don’t be consumed with doubt, worry, and performance anxiety. Just take the step of asking really big things in Jesus’ name and watch God show off and fulfill his dreams.

God wants us to pray big prayers. What’s yours?
